For some reason, I’m getting a lot of spam targeting the Anthropology Quote of the Day post that I made back on the 21st. I have no idea why that particular post is so attractive to people trying to sell Viagra or beachfront property in Eastern Europe. However, it does reinforce my decision to moderate all comments.
I’ve noticed a bunch of spam in the last few days on my blog too. Since the spammers are bots (not actual human beings), they are probably picking up on some strings in the post, likely unintelligently, such as seeing the string “pills” in a post about oil spills and assuming it was about medicine, or “polo” in “anthropology” and assuming it was about horses and sports. I wouldn’t waste time trying to read a human spammer’s mind, though; I sure won’t trying to read a bot. 😉
